Multiple personality disorder, quote

Are you people for real? You obviously have No clue about mental illness, but lots of experience with personality disorders of your own, from looking at some of these ignorant comments!
DID (what you call multiple personalty disorder) is actually dissociative identity disorder. It is real and happens when the brain (in terms you might understand) compartmentalizes (splits off) things that are traumatic. This is what causes the different “parts” of the brain or alter personalities.
And yes, not only can a person HAVE bipolar and DID, it’s actually quite common. And they have various other issues as well. Different personalities can each have their OWN disorders. It’s just how the brain works and how a person survives trauma, how they adjust to it at the time. But in later years it comes back, or parts come out, at times that are not useful and helpful … as they were in the past to facilitate their own survival of things the brain could not handle.
And no, you don’t get locked away in a hospital forever because you have DID … LOL With about 2% of the population having it, believe me … you see people every day with it and don’t even know it. They can be your friends or even family! Do you think they’d actually tell you? Of course not, it’s not like your brain is equipped to understand ;~) They’re not stupid, they know how to survive! In fact, DID tends to occur in those who are QUITE intelligent and artistic. Perhaps emotional and sensitive as well. But certainly not as ignorant, as some of the things I’ve just read.
So deal with it … some brains do amazing things! And some don’t ;)
It’s a shame that ignorance keeps those with DID in the closet and keeps them from telling people so they CAN get help! But … there are sure a lot of personality disordered out there too, unfortunately! And they do a lot of damage. I wish those who do damage could be locked away !!! Then the rest would be “safe” to seek the help they need. So sad.
